Bio - Jo McLean
I am an English-born artist with a BA (Hons) in Ceramics from South Glamorgan Institute of HE Faculty of Art and Design (1988).
I moved to New Zealand in 1994.
In November 1999, I left the workforce to become a full time mother to the first of my two children. It is only in the last year that I have created the time and space to return to ceramics.
My Inspiration
I have chosen birds as my subject matter because, for me, they represent a lightness of spirit and the ability to literally transcend the worries and distractions of the everyday. Birds have the ability to inhabit two worlds, two elements, simultaneously.
My Materials
I prefer to work with either porcelain or terracotta clay, and am currently experimenting with different glazes and lustres.
